"Lotus flowers are a symbol of the strength and resistance of beauty against the chaos of the world, growing as they do from the murk and mire.
The lotus flower in our logo, inverted under the surface of the water, seemingly dead, is still thriving.
I wanted an image that conveyed the contrast between the superficial morbidity of the name "Dead Lotus Couture" and the strong and powerful beauty I aim to create through my work.
I also wanted a logo that reflected the dichotomies I try to address in all aspects of my career - life and death, the madonna and the whore, femininity and masculinity, even the dichotomy of the two sides of my Japanese and Italian heritage; I value the strength of these things individually, but also the fluid spaces in between, where things can be created that are greater than the individual parts.
To me this is part of the importance of not confining things and people to restricted boxes, which is central to the ethos of Dead Lotus Couture."
